New Year’s Eve in McKees Rocks, PA. Dave, his brother John, and a few friends
were eager to join a local bar’s New Year’s Eve party, but the cover charge was
steep. Instead of turning away, they proposed an unorthodox solution to The
Norwood Inn’s owner: cook ribs in exchange for entry.
Despite never having cooked ribs before, they took on the challenge. After a quick
test run at home that involved perfecting a BBQ sauce recipe, they arrived back to
the kitchen and whipped up 50 pounds of ribs—and within just 45 minutes, they
were all gone! This impromptu success sparked Dave’s passion for seasoning and
flavor.
Driven by this newfound enthusiasm, Dave and John began experimenting with
various seasonings. Their dedication led to the creation of our signature blends,
including Season-It and Garlic-Plus, which quickly became favorites among food
lovers.
Today, Dave’s Original Seasonings stands as a testament to that fateful rib cookoff.
